LEARN · MARKET STRUCTURE

Crypto market structure.

Price tells you what happened. Market structure tells you how it was financed and where the crowd is leaning right now. It’s the layer Ioxer reads instead of chart patterns — and it’s where the one signal we trust lives.

01 · UNDER THE PRICE

The plumbing behind the chart

A price chart is the output of a market — the score on the board. Market structure is the machinery that produced it: who is positioned how, with how much leverage, financed at what cost. The same price move can be healthy or fragile depending entirely on the structure underneath.

The main structural readouts:

  • Funding rate — the skew of leverage: which side the crowd is on and what they pay to stay.
  • Open interest — the size of leverage in play.
  • Basis — the gap between perpetual and spot price.
  • Liquidations — forced exits when leverage breaks.
  • Order-book depth — how much size the market can absorb.
02 · NOT THE CHART

Structure vs technical analysis

Technical analysis reads shapes in the price line — triangles, head-and-shoulders, support and resistance. Market structure reads real positioning data. The difference matters: a chart pattern is a story you tell about the past; funding crowding is a measurable, testable fact about how leveraged the crowd is right now.

Ioxer is a market-structure engine, not a chart-pattern tool. We score what we can measure and validate, not shapes we can imagine.

03 · ONE VALIDATED READ

Why only funding crowding

Plenty of structural metrics are interesting; only one earned a place in the score. Funding crowding survived out-of-sample validation — sign-stable across regimes, robust to survivorship, tradeable after costs. Open interest, basis and the rest stay as context to show, never a driver of the calibrated read. That three-layer discipline — score, display, gate — is how we keep the engine honest.

FAQ

Common questions

What is crypto market structure?

It’s the set of data describing how the market is positioned beneath the price: funding rates (the skew of leverage), open interest (the size of leverage), basis (perp vs spot), liquidations, and order-book depth. Where price tells you what happened, market structure tells you how it was financed and where the crowd is leaning now.

How is market structure different from technical analysis?

Technical analysis reads patterns in the price chart itself. Market structure reads the plumbing behind the price — real positioning and leverage data. Ioxer is a market-structure tool, not a chart-pattern tool: it scores funding crowding, which is measurable and validated, rather than shapes on a chart.

Which market-structure signal does Ioxer use?

Just one, by design: funding crowding. Other structural metrics — open interest, basis, liquidations — are useful context, but only funding survived out-of-sample validation as a ranking factor. The rest stay as display, not score.
